For dogs, acquiring a reward is more motivating than actually having it. This is a biological factor related to prey drive. For this reason we try to increase motivation by having dogs chase their rewards a small distance. This makes the Reward Event more rewarding overall. Whenever possible, we also try to transition into toy training, as this it’s even easier to tap into that energy and manufacture drive to perform.
